CAMBRIDGE—Robert J. “Bob” Martin, 76, of rural Cambridge, died Thursday, June 11, 2009, at his home. Funeral services celebrating his life were held Monday, June 15, at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. The Rev. John Davis officiated. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation was held Sunday, June 14, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Robert J. Martin Memorial Fund to be given to various charities.


 


Robert J. “Bob” Martin, 76, of rural Cambridge, died Thursday, June 11, 2009, at his home.

 Funeral services celebrating his life were held Monday, June 15, at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. The Rev. John Davis officiated. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation was held Sunday, June 14, at the funeral home.

 He was born Jan. 31, 1933, in Geneseo, the son of James and Ethel (Jaquet) Martin. He was a 1950 graduate of Geneseo High School. He served his country proudly in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. He married Merle Werkheiser Feb. 7, 1954, in Geneseo.

 He had been a lifetime farmer in rural Munson Township/Cambridge, and also worked at the Kewanee Sale Barn and Dewey Green Corn Shelling for many years.

 He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee for numerous years. He also served as a trustee for Munson Township for many years. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Merle; a brother and spouse, Dale and Janice Martin of Geneseo; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Wiese of Geneseo; three nieces and a nephew and spouses, Julie Martin of California, Kris and Preston Talbot of Cambridge, Pam and Randy Ullmark of Davenport, Iowa and Steve Wiese of Geneseo; a great-niece; three great-nephews, and two great-great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
