Molly Jo Smith broke a school record during the Rockridge Lady Invitational Wednesday, April 13. Smith set a new school record in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 48.52 seconds, a record previous held by Michelle Sabo since 1986.It also broke the meet record of 49.89 held by Ciara Marlow.

    Smith set a new school record in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 48.52 seconds, a record previous held by Michelle Sabo since 1986.

    It also broke the meet record of 49.89 held by Ciara Marlow.

    She finished second to Devin Hasson of Rockridge who had a time of 47.82.

    Smith also won the 100-m dash with a time of 13.38 and placed second in the 200-m dash with a time of 28.15.

    Jessica Nail also had a good afternoon, placing third in the 800-m run and fourth in the 1600-m run with times of 2:39.74 and 5:52.43, respectively.

    Kelly Franck finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 13-4. Kalli Humphrey came in 12th with 11-5.

    Kayla VanWatermeulen cleared 4-8, good for sixth place in the high jump.

    Jasmine Jefko led Ridgewood in the shot put  with a distance of 26-11, good for sixth place. Hannah Garrett finished 15th with a throw of 23-7 1/2 and Sammi Stevenson came in 17th with 21-1.

    The 400-m relay team of Caitie Allen, Jessy Brown, Kaitlyn Able and Lexi Britt finished sixth with a time of 1:03.48.

    The 800-m relay team of Brooklyn Wexell, Hailey Clark, Kendall McKie and Franck finished seventh with a time of 2:08.70, the team’s personal best.

    Brooklyn Wexell and Hailey Clark also ran the 100-m dash but did not qualify for the finals.

    Lindsey Myers placed 11th in the 200-m dash with a time of 34.11.

    Mercedis Mejia and Myers placed 13th and 15th in the 400-m dash with times of 1:14.75 and 1:18.32, respectively.

    Katie Stevenson was also a contender in the 800-m run and finished 13th with a time of 3:08.40 and the 300-m hurdles where she placed 14th with a time of 1:03.38.

    Ridgewood’s frosh-soph  1600-m relay team placed third with a time of 5:19.59. No names were available. In varsity action, the Ridgewood team placed seventh with a time of 4:57.80. Members of the varsity team were Humphrey, Aly Smith, Nail and McKie.

    In the 100-m hurdles, McKie and Allen placed ninth and 11th overall with times of 20.29 and 23.96, respectively.

    In the triple jump division, Humphrey placed eighth with a hop, skip and jump of 28-7.

    There were three Ridgewood contenders in the discus competition. Garrett placed 12th with a distance of 62-2 1/2. Jefko finished 13th with 65-1 and Stevenson came in 21st with 45-2.

    “We had a great meet with some impressive performances,” stated coach Kim Jansen.

    Overall, Ridgewood placed sixth in the eight team invite. Erie-Prophetstown took first; Rockridge, second; United, third; Monmouth-Roseville, fourth; Mercer County, fifth; ROWVA, seventh and Galva, eighth.
