Henry and Stark County Health Department announces that it has received a special grant that will allow them to conduct several free immunization clinics throughout the area.

"These special clinics are being held in conjunction with local school districts,” sated Sandy Sommer, RN Health Department director of clinical services.  “We encourage eligible persons to take advantage of these special free immunization clinics when we get to your area."

    Scheduled clinics include:

ANNAWAN:  Wednesday, May 12, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Annawan Grade School Gym.

CAMBRIDGE: Friday, May 21, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Cambridge Elementary School.

ORION: Monday, May 24, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Orion High School.

Immunizations will be given to: 11-18 yr. olds.

    • Meningococcal (Protects children from Meningitis.) An infection of the fluid surrounding the brain & spinal cord.  Many need this for college entry.

    • Tdap (Tetanus, diptheria, & pertussis) Needed for High School entry, and to protect  your family and others from whooping cough.  If your child did not  receive a pertussis component vaccine when entering high school they may receive it now.

    • Varicella (Chicken Pox) 2 doses are recommended if they did not have the disease.

    • H1N1 - will be available for all ages and especially for those who were 9 years and under and did not receive the recommended booster (2nd dose) for optimal antibody response.  Injection vaccine only.

    • Tdap for Adults 19 thru 64 yrs. of age, who are close contacts/caregivers of infants less than one year of age on the WIC program (recommended to minimize risk of infants contracting pertussis).

"Parental Consent is needed for those under 18 years of age,” stated Sommers. “And we encourage parents to bring their child's immunization record with them to the clinic."

This is a limited time offering provided through an ARRA grant.  Many vaccines are costly and persons identified as eligible now, may not be eligible after the grant has been expended.

Those unable to make this clinic, can contact either Health Department office, 852-5272 Main Office or 792-4011 Colona Office to schedule an appointment.
