Some Cambridge students will take part in an Illinois Youth Survey, Cambridge High School principal Robert Reagan told the school board.
The statewide survey will help better understand youth risks and protective behaviors as they relate to student problems and academic success.
At the school board meeting on Thursday, Jan. 19, Reagan talked about upcoming activities.
The J. Kyle Braid Banquet will be held Saturday, March 3, at Lavender Crest, Colona.
Spanish Week will be held Monday, Feb. 6, through Friday, Feb. 10. Activities are scheduled for every day at both the elementary school and jr./sr. high school.
At the high school, Siesta Day will be Monday; chips and salsa day will be Tuesday; Sombrero Day will be Wednesday; a Spanish dinner will be served to the public Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Macarena Day will be Friday.
At the elementary school, there will be an English to Spanish animal word search on Monday; chips and salsa will be Tuesday; a Spanish speaking country trivia map on Wednesday; a head, shoulder, knees and toes pep assembly Thursday at 2:30 p.m. and Sombrero Day on Friday.
Reagan updated the board on what’s new in the ag room.
“All students in the intro to ag classes are beginning their supervised agricultural experience,” Reagan said. “Student have been filling out practice books in class and will begin their books next week (this week) keeping record of their agricultural hobbies/jobs outside of the classroom.”
The students have began preparation for the parliamentary procedure contest and livestock judging season. They have also been looking into the aquaculture tanks and would like to have some fish (tilapa or catfish) soon.
The class has two quail as class pets. They are named Jim and Lollipop. They are planning on doing a hatching experiment when Lollipop starts laying again.
Black Hawk East (BHE) and the Cambridge FFA Alumni are planning “A Day in the Life of Agriculture”at BHE Friday, March 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
All area FFA members are invited to join them to explore the many opportunities available within the agricultural industry.

The Cambridge FFA Ag Alumni will present an Ag Trivia Night Saturday, March 17, at the Moose Lodge in Geneseo. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Doors will open at 5 p.m. and a Pizza Hut spaghetti dinner will be served from 5 to 6:15 p.m. Tickets for the dinner should be purchased in advance with proceeds to benefit FFA.
Eight players are allowed on a team. Registration forms and the entry fee along with dinner tickets should be mailed to Jenny Dobbels, 16417 Hwy. 81, Cambridge, by Monday, March 5.

Reagan also announced the high school running club is off and running with Coach Kim Jansen.
The Scholastic Bowl has started their season and congratulated the junior high dance team for qualifying for state. The state competition will be held Saturday, March 10, in Macomb.
In other business:
• The board approved Gorenz and Associates to provide the school district’s audit services for the fiscal year at the cost of $7,205.
• Approved keeping closed the executive session minutes dated Aug. 19, 2011; Sept. 15, 2011; Oct. 20, 2011; Nov. 15, 2011 and Dec. 15, 2011.
• Approved the letting of bids for the replacement of the roof at the Cambridge Elementary Building to be let on Tuesday, Feb. 7, and closed Tuesday, Feb. 28. Dick Borg, custodian at the school, reported a leak in the roof.
