“Survivor” is the theme of this year’s Ridgewood Spartans homecoming parade sponsored by the Cambridge Rotary Club Saturday, Oct. 8.

Spirit Week activities have been announced.

On Wednesday, Oct. 5, students are asked to wear “Survivor - Tribe colors”. Seniors should wear black, juniors, green; sophomores, white and freshmen, light blue. TV game shows will be the class competitions theme.

On Thursday, Oct. 6, the Ridgewood cheerleaders will hold a spaghetti dinner before the pep rally, cornation and bonfire at AlWood High School.

Friday, Oct. 7, is Spartan Pride Day. All students are asked to wear their Spartan attire.

AlWood will hold their homecoming parade at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7.

Cambridge’s parade will be held Saturday, Oct. 8, at 10 a.m.

“We are hoping to increase our parade entries this year,” stated Bill Schehl, coordinator of the event. “The parade categories will remain the same at Hand Park, with children’s categories including best costume; best decorated bike and attire, eight and under; best decorated bike and attire, nine and over; best decorated motorized float and best float, other at Memorial Park.”

Categories at Hand Park will include organizations and groups, most appropriate to theme, most artistic, commercial, open, equestrain, antique cars, trucks and tractors (25 years and older), classic cars, trucks and tractors, 25 years or less and school class floats.

On Saturday morning, the Cambridge Lutheran Church will host their annual Kaffee Stuga beginning at 8 a.m.  at 200 North Prospect Street (formerly Sportsmans Bar and Grill) until the end of the homecoming parade. The group will offer coffee, juice, rolls and baked goods. Proceeds from the Kaffee Stuga benefits the youth mission group.

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. from Hand Park, traveling east on Locust Street to North Prospect Street, traveling south to Center Street and then west on Center.

Judging of the floats will begin at 9 a.m. at Hand Park. Children’s entries are to meet at the corner Memorial Park in downtown Cambridge (formerly Railroad Park).

All participants will receive a ribbon. First, second, third and fourth place class winners will also receive monetary donations.

Rotary officials are asking individuals not to distribute candy during the parade. Candy will be distributed by the Cambridge Fire Protection District only.

A pork chop dinner sponsored by the junior class will be held immediately after the parade in the Cambridge Community Hall until noon. Carry-outs are available until 12:30 p.m.

The pork chop meal will consist of pork chop sandwich, chips, baked beans, dessert and drink. A hot dog meal will also be available.
