MACOMB – Efforts to improve occupancy rates are making progress in housing properties owned and managed by the McDonough County Housing Authority.
As previously reported, Maintenance Coordinator Kevin Meunier presented a plan for revitalization of 10 housing units at Eisenhower Tower (Macomb), three at Greenbrier (Bushnell) and one at Prairieview (Macomb). Revitalization means new cabinets, paint, flooring and electrical.
“The contract for revitalization of 10 housing units has been awarded to Tom Taylor (owner of Taylor Construction) for $152,800,” said Meunier during a regular meeting of the Housing Authority on Monday.
Details of the contract stipulate interior rehab only and a 120 day out rehabilitation from April 2 to July 30, 2018. Which means 10 housing units will be ready to receive new occupants by the end of July “if not sooner,” according to the maintenance director.
“We had two other bidders besides him, and they were relatively higher.” When asked by Board President Kim Pierce who the other bidders were, Meunier replied, “Trotter Construction, Laverdiere pulled specs, Rodney Taft pulled specs but neither one bid and the other one was Mike Sissel out of Bushnell. He pulled specs and he bid.”
Pierce followed up by asking if Taylor Construction had “worked out here before,” Meunier said, “Yes – they’ve worked here as well as Prairieview in the past.”
On another note, a landscaping contract was awarded to Jeff Moore of the Lawn Moores whose website states they provide “sustainable law care for West Central Illinois.” The bid was $37,800 for all properties.
