CHARLESTON - Individual athletes representing Farmington, Lewistown, and South Fulton as well as three Farmington relay teams are in the hunt today in the final round in the IHSA 1A Girls State Track & Field Meet. Action began at 10 a.m. today at O’Brien Field on the campus of Eastern Illinois University.

CHARLESTON  - Individual athletes representing Farmington, Lewistown, and South Fulton as well as three Farmington relay teams are in the hunt today in the final round in the IHSA 1A Girls State Track & Field Meet. Action began at 10 a.m. today at O’Brien Field on the campus of Eastern Illinois University.

 

Farmington’s Sarah Litchfield cleared 10’ in Thursday’s pole vault prelims, sending her to the finals. Eight other vaulters cleared the same height while four others advanced at 9’ 9.”

 

Joining Litchfield in the final round is teammate Jordan Peckham, who advanced in the 100 meter dash. The senior’s time on Thursday was 12.52, which won her heat.

 

As previously eluded to, Farmington advanced three relay teams. The 400 quartet of Haley Huls, Payton Peckham, Litchfield, and Jordan Peckham finished in 50.21. Their time was fourth best on the day.

 

The same group advanced in the 800 relay and 1600 relays. Their time in the 800 was 1:45.64, which was first in their heat. In the 1600, they ran the four laps in 4:04.49, which was second in their heat.

 

As for Lewistown, the Lady Indians are represented by Anna Heffren and Mackenzie Goldring, both in the 1600. Ironically, both ladies finished fourth in their respective heats with times of 5:23.45 (Heffren) and 5:26.40 (Goldring).

 

Completing the list of area qualifiers in the Lady Rebels’ Tori Keeler. The senior advanced in the 100 meter dash (12.75) and the 200 meter dash (25.93).

 

Two other area athletes qualified, but didn’t make it to the finals. South Fulton’s Emily Briney ran the 100 meter hurdles in 15.77 (fifth in her heat) and Farmington’s Megan Gilstrap was sixth in her heat, throwing the shot put 35’ 7 3/4”.
