MACOMB — Western Distributing, located at 254 S. Collins Avenue, is selling its business.
On Friday, at least one local business reported seeing a “closed” sign on the door of the business. On Monday, RNJ Distribution contacted the Voice to announce they had acquired Western Distributing’s bottled water accounts.
According to Rick Coursey, Jr., who owns RNJ along with spouse Aimee Coursey, they have started contacting Western’s former customers and began making deliveries Monday.
Western Distribution owner Joe Westen confirmed RNJ has taken over the water delivery portion of the business.
“I made sure we kept it local and I heard they treat their customers right,” he said.
He did not confirm whether other beverage-related products sold by Western – such as coffee and paper products – were also being handled by RNJ.
He is in the midst of negotiations on the chemical, or janitorial supply, portion of the business. He hopes to complete negotiations and have that portion the business turned over within one to two weeks.
When asked why he decided to close the business, he said another opportunity had presented itself and “I just wanted to start doing other things.”
One employee has gone to RNJ, and the other three are helping with the transition. When asked for more information about the potential new owners for the janitorial supply business, he said he couldn’t comment at this time.
Western Distributing was taking calls at its main number, 309-837-1695 as of Monday.
