Kyle Stromquist of Cambridge was appointed to the position of Henry County Zoning and Building manager during the August Henry County Board meeting. Stromquist is a local contractor with CK Homes in Cambridge. He is planning to transition into the full time position by the end of September.
Elisha McCreary scores the opening touchdown of the Ridgewood vs Annawan/Wethersfield football game Saturday, Sept. 10, at Augustana College, Rock Island. McCreary broke off a 25-yard run to the end zone to give the Spartans the early edge. He finished with 96 total yards (71 rushing) and two touchdowns.
Henry County Treasurer Rich VerHeecke donates $3,000 to Katie Boruff, Henry County Farm Bureau manager, and Paula Janson, Henry County Agricultural Literacy coordinator. The proceeds from VerHeecke’s dessert auction will benefit Ag in the Classroom in Henry County.
The Cambridge Village Board agreed to pay $10,000 for an apartment building at 215 N. Prospect Street which was in foreclosure with Central Bank, Geneseo. Businesses previously were housed in the building at the street level and the 10 apartments on the second floor are occupied with tenants.

Homecoming court members for 2011 are Kelsey Lavin, Taylor Vincent, Hailey Clark, Aly Smith, Hanna Swanson, Ashley Kruger, Jacob Elliott, Blaize Harris, Ben Smith, Dominic Martin and Kevin Miller. The court was announced at the bonfire Thursday, Oct. 6, AlWood High School, Woodhull.
Cambridge royalty were Kevin Miller and Aly Smith, who were crowned at the bonfire on Thursday, Oct. 6, at AlWood High School in Woodhull. They are the children of Scott and Silke Miller and Beth Smith and the late Scott Smith.
Wyatt Moriarity, a fourth grade student at the Cambridge Elementary school, was chosen to be the “Superintendent of the Day”.
Bonnie and Dean Talbott of Cambridge were awarded the Scott Smith Service Above Self Award by Dwaine VanMeenen, president of the Cambridge Rotary Club Wednesday, Oct. 5. Jamie Powell was awarded the Promote Cambridge Award.
The Ridgewood girls volleyball teams each earned themselves a “W” as they reigned victorious over the ROWVA Tigers last Thursday, Oct. 13. Taylor Reed finished the night with four assists, three kills, one dig and one block. Paige Wexell spiked down four kills.
It was Senior Night for Ridgewood Spartans football team as they hosted Sciota West Prairie Friday night, Oct. 21. The Spartans shut out SWP in their final home game of the season, winning the contest 62-0.

Ruth Gradert was the overall big winner of the Cambridge Main Street senior citizen bingo night Thursday Oct. 27, at Bella Pizza in downtown Cambridge. She won several door prizes and the “special” door prize of a small Isabel Bloom figurine.
The Cambridge Ambulance Service has lost two valuable Emergency Medical Technicians, Trish Burgeson and Deb Ceurvorst have both retired, after volunteering with the service for 15 years.
Village board members learned Monday, Oct. 28, that a grocery store will be opening in Cambridge.
Tyler English and Mary Hammer were named Students of the Quarter by the Cambridge Rotary Club.
Cambridge American Legion awarded Josh Verscheure, Henry County Deputy of the Year; Ginny Krueger, Cambridge EMT of the Year and Tom Akers, Cambridge Firefighter of the Year.
Five varsity volleyball players earned awards following the volleyball season Friday, Nov. 4. They were Hailey Clark, Ashley Kruger, Molly Smith, Hanna Swanson and Annie Gelaude.
April Gumbel, a former Cambridge student, was back in the classroom, Friday, Nov. 18, talking with first graders about how important nutrition is for their teeth. A student at Carl Sandburg College, Galesburg, she will graduate in May 2012 with a degree in dental hygiene.
Two senior football players were named to the Lincoln Trail Conference All-Conference Football Teams. Kevin Miller was named to the first team, while Alex Main was selected for the second team. They were recognized during the Ridgewood football banquet Thursday, Nov. 17.

County Seat employees and friends of the community rallied to raise over $1,800 for our kids in Cambridge. Caring Hearts has big wishes to fill, and County Seat’s fundraiser will help make dreams come true.
Steven and Dawn Michlig of Manlius, formerly of Cambridge, purchased the fuel and propane division of Michlig AgriCenter Inc. on Monday, Aug. 1. It is now known as Michlig Energy Ltd., having two headquarters, one in Manlius and the other in Cambridge.
Mary Hammer’s poster design was chosen for the Freedom House Domestic Violence poster contest. She was awarded a $200 savings bond and her artwork will be displayed on a billboard on highway 81 in Cambridge in February 2012 during Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. Andrea Happel was awarded a ribbon for participating in the contest as well.
A group of local pastors, formerly known as the Cambridge Ministerium, has changed their name to Cambridge Cares. Their new mission statement is “Sharing Christian love and unity by providing for the spiritual and physical needs of the community”.
Sixty-two scarves were made by Cambridge and nearby residents for the Special Olympics this year. Cambridge High School J. Kyle Braid students helped coordinate the donations.
Jenny Clark of Cambridge was inducted into the Cambridge High School Hall of Fame on Thursday, Dec. 22.
Leslie Thrasher of Cambridge received a master’s degree in business administration during St. Ambrose University’s 2011 Winter Commencement ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 17 at the River Center in Davenport, Iowa.
