The Cambridge Elementary School gym is the staging area for the geothermal project at the school. About two-thirds of the pipes are installed and the project is running on schedule according to Tom Akers, Cambridge superintendent of schools.

The Cambridge School Board approved the 2009-10 amended budget during their regular school board meeting Monday, June 21, at the Cambridge Elementary School.

School board members attending the meeting were Steve Evans, Mary Richter, Chad Humphrey, Dianne Jeffries, Karin Brink and Breanna Leander.

Administrators included Tom Akers, superintendent; Robert Reagan, junior/senior high principal; and Shelly Logston, elementary school principal.

The budget had to be amended because when it was done, the geothermal work at the Cambridge Elementary School wasn’t planned, according to Akers.

“We are approximately $65,800 short, but when we get the money owed to us from the state, it will more than make up for that shortfall,” Akers said. “I want to congratulate everyone for buckling down and saving the district money any way they could.”

The board approved the bills through Monday, June 21.

Akers talked about the geothermal project at the school. Two-thirds of the pipes are installed. The pumps will be installed at the end.

He also spoke about the traps and boiler at the high school building.

“About 80 percent of the traps are done,” he stated. “We are still shopping for a boiler in case we qualify for the Clean Air Act Grant.”

The board also approved giving Reagan and Logston a 2 percent wage increase; Akers, a 1.5 percent increase; and non-certified staff, including cooks and aides, a 3 percent increase.
