Cambridge Main Street announced Christmas on the Square will include a Tour of Homes again this year.

“We are so excited to have the Lang residence on the tour this year as this 100 year old home is a home many have wanted to see for years,” stated director, Deb VanDeWoestyne.

Gene and Jamie Lang have recently completed some remodeling projects and feel the home is now ready to share for the holidays.

The Lang home was built in 1911 by George Hutchinson and includes many of the original architectural details. The home includes four bedrooms with a maid’s quarters upstairs, large living room, dining room and kitchen with a butler’s pantry.

The home has the original massive crown molding and baseboards, many of the original light fixtures and three working fireplaces.

“The Allen boys and Jeff Hutchinson have been a big help since we moved into the community,” said Gene. “It’s always hard to move into a community not knowing anyone.”

“The new Cambridge Fire Station is also on the tour and this is a great opportunity to see this wonderful facility,” added VanDeWoestyne. “Tickets are not needed to visit the fire station though. It is free to the public and will be open from 2 to 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served.”

The tour also features a new home in the Ridgeview Subdivision owned by Nick  and Judie Moore.

The Moores moved from a small three bedroom house into a two-story spacious house built for them by his daughter, Tammy.

This beautiful house in now where the majority of the Moore family gatherings occur.

The first floor features a formal dining area with a large open kitchen, eating nook and living room. A walk-in pantry and small office area are off the kitchen as well as a four-season room. The master bedroom and huge bath is also located on the lower level as well as a laundry room.

In the upstairs of their home, participants will find three bedrooms and two full baths plus a bonus room/family room over the garage. The balcony overlooks the first floor and offers a great view of the golf course.

“We are so grateful to the home owners on the tour for agreeing to open their doors and allow others to share in their Christmas traditions, old and new, and to see the beauty of their homes and décor,” said VanDeWoestyne.

The tour will be held in conjunction with the Christmas on the Square festivities scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 4, from 2 to 5 p.m.  Tickets may be purchased the day of the tour at the Community Hall on East Street or at the participating homes.

“This is a great way to kick off the holiday season and many people from Cambridge and nearby communities enjoy the opportunity to see some of our most spectacular homes in town,” said VanDeWoestyne.  Maps with home locations and a brochure featuring each one will be available to all tour goers.  Participants taking the tour will be entered into a drawing to win a free poinsettia.

Guests in town are invited to the Community Hall for a visit with Santa at 4 p.m. followed by a chili supper and pulled pork sandwich meal.

Music for the event will be provided by ‘The Party of Four’ saxophone quartet from the Quad Cities.  They will play many holiday favorites throughout the evening. The quartet members have played together for 10 years, performing at many venues in and around the Quad Cities. Members include Scott Angelici, Julie Craighead, Jennifer Srogmeier and Danielle Kvapil.

The event will conclude with the Christmas Cantata, “Caroling for Jesus” at the First Baptist Church in Cambridge at 7 p.m. The event will be a celebration of favorite Christmas hymns, scripture readings and a candlelight rendition of “Silent Night.” Refreshments will be served after the program. The event is free, but all monetary donations will be donated to the Caring Hearts program, a program which helps needy families during the holidays and throughout the year.

Other activities slated during the day include:

    • An arts and craft fair at the Cambridge High School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

    • Swedish bake sale and barbecue lunch at the Cambridge Lutheran Church from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    • Calories Galore at the First Baptist Church in Cambridge from 1 to 3 p.m.

Activities on Saturday, Dec. 3, are:

    • A Santa Trial at the Henry County Courthouse beginning at 4 p.m.

    • Carriage rides at College Square Park from 4 to 7 p.m. and a “Taste of Cambridge” in the downtown business district.
