    Voters will head to the polls Tuesday, Feb. 2, for a general primary election. All polling places will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. at which time the Democrat, Republican and Green political parties will nominate or elect several different offices.

    Henry County residents will also have the choice whether or not to impose an increase on its share of local sales taxes by .25 percent for a period not to exceed 10 years. This would mean that a consumer would pay an additional .25 sales tax for every $100 of tangible personal property bought at retail. If imposed, the additional tax would cease being collected at the end of 10 years, if not terminated earlier by a vote of the county board.

Democrats

    On the Democratic primary ballot, five individuals are running for one position as United States Senator. They are Robert Marshall, David Hoffman, Jacob Meister, Alexander “Alexi” Giannoulias and Cheryle Jackson.


    Pat Quinn and Daniel W. Hynes will take each other on in the governor race.


    Six individuals are running for one position at lieutenant governor. They are Arthur L. Turner, Terry Link, Rickey R. Hendon, Scott Lee Cohen, Thomas Michael Castillo and Mike Boland.


    Lisa Madigan is running unopposed for attorney general and Jesse White, for secretary of state.


    David E. Miller, S. Raja Krishnamoorthi and Clinton A. “Clint” Krislov are vying for the title of comptroller.


    Justin Oberman and Robin Kelly will face each other in the treasurer race.


    Bill Foster will run unopposed for Representative in Congress 14th Congressional District. Phil Hare will run unopposed for Representative in Congress, 17th District.


    Linda Chapa LaVia and Jennifer Laesch will seek one seat for state central committeewoman, 14th Congressional District. Christine Eik Winick and Mary Boland are vying for the 17th District  position.


    Mark Guethle is running unopposed for the state central committeeman, 14th District. Don Johnston is running unopposed in the 17th District.


    Three individuals are running for one position as Representative in the General Assembly, 71st District. They are Jerry Lack, Dennis Ahern and Porter McNeil.


    Elizabeth Double is running unopposed for the 74th general assembly representative and Kenneth J. Novak, for the 90th.


    In Henry County races, Barb Link faces no opposition for the position of  county clerk/recorder on the democratic ticket. Tim Wise is running unopposed for sheriff.


    Four individuals are running for county board, district 1, for four positions. They are Jo Anne Hillman, Cliff Sack, Jesse Crouch and Betty Murphy. In district 2, Jim King, was the only one listed. John Sovanski, Jan May and Ann DeSmith will run for district 3 seats.


    Frank R. Fuhr is seeking the nomination for Judge of the Circuit Court, 14th Judicial Circuit, to replace Hon. Joseph F. Beatty. Three individuals will seek the position to replace Hon. Larry S. Vandersnick. They are Trish Joyce, Clarence “Mike” Darrow and Maritia Quinn Griffith.


    In the precinct races, Jesse J. Crouch will run for Hanna 2, Tom Steele for Phenix, David DeBaillie for Colona 1, Dale Hillman for Colona 2, Larry Swemline for Colona 3, Jim King for Geneseo 6, Ronald Volk for Western 2, Henry Murphy for Western 3, Gregory A. Wancket for Annawan, LaVerne Carlson for Lynn, Thomas M. Wiley for Cambridge 2, John M. Sovanski for Kewanee 2, Gerald E. Salisbury for Kewanee 3, David Guzzardo, for Kewanee 4, Kevin Blust Sr. for Kewanee 6, Jan May for Kewanee 9, Tim Black of Galva 2, Larry Lock for Wethersfield 2 and Jerry Thompson for Wethersfield 4.

Republicans

    On the Republic primary ballot, six individuals are vying for one United States senator seat. They are Donald (Don) Lowery, Mary Steven Kirk, Andy Martin, Kathleen Thomas, John Arrington and Patrick J. Hughes.


    Seven men are looking for one position as governor. They are Kirk W. Dillard, Bill Brady, Robert J. “Bob” Schillerstrom, Adam Andrzejewski, Dan Proft, Jim Ryan and Andy McKenna.


    In the lieutenant governor race, six individuals are seeking one position. They are Don Tracy, Jason Plummer, Randy A. White Sr., Brad Cole, Matt Murphy and Dennis W. Cook.


    Steve Kim will run unopposed for attorney general and  Robert Enriquez for secretary of state.


    Three are vying for the position of comptroller. They are Judy Baar Topinka, Jim Dodge and William J. Kelly.


    Dan Rutherford will run for state treasurer unopposed on the ticket.


    Randall M. “Randy” Hultgren and Ethan A. Hastert will face each other for the position as Representative of Congress, 14th District. Bobby Schilling is the lone candidate for the 17th District.


    Dale E. Risinger will run for the nomination of state senator, 37th legislative district.


    Richard Morthland will vie for the Republican candidate for general assembly, 71st representative. Donald L. Moffitt is running unopposed on the ticket for 74th representative and Jerry L. Mitchell for 90th representative.


    In the county clerk/ recorder race, Rebekah McCaw will challenge Doreen Vincent.


    Richard C. VerHeecke will seek the treasurer nomination.


    Three candidates will face of for the Republican sheriff bid. They are Joe Bedford, James “Jim” Padilla and Dan Collier.


    Angie Zarvell is running unopposed for regional superintendent of schools, Bureau, Henry and Stark Counties. Robert Sondgeroth is running unopposed or regional superintendent of schools, Whiteside County.


    For county board, Tim Wells and Daniel M. Swanson are running for district 1. Dennis Anderson, Kippy Nelson, Kathy D. Nelson and Jon Zahm are running for district 2.


    Precinct committeemen include Edward Ryan for Hanna 2, Jan E. Weber for Phenix, Cynthia A. Weber for Loraine, Marsha Timmerman for Colona 2, Carol S. Wiesman for Colona 5, Nadine Swanson for Edford, Bill Preston for Geneseo 2, Kathy D. Nelson for Geneseo 4, William H. Hanford for Geneseo 5, Thomas J. Wachtel for Geneseo 6, Don Goembel for Western 2, Jon Zahm for Osco, Alan Yager for Munson, Daniel M. Swanson for Andover, David J. Dobbels for Cambridge 1, Kippy Nelson for Cambridge 2, Stephen Sellon for Kewanee 1, Jan Padilla for Kewanee 3, Steve Martin for Kewanee 7, Rich Nordstrom for Galva 3, Eldon R.
