    Ridgewood’s girls had a good night when they hosted the United Red Storm Monday, Jan. 9, and won a 66-63 nailbitter.

   The Red Storm came out strong and outscored the Spartans, 16-9. Scoring five for Ridgewood was Annie Gelaude. Jasmine Jefko and Ashley Kruger added two points each.

    The Spartans defense picked up in the second period, holding United to only 10 points, while Ridgewood’s offense netted 14 points. Kruger led the offense with seven points. Gelaude went 2-of-3 from the free throw line and Jefko added a basket for two.

    Three Ridgewood players netted three-pointers in the third period. They were Taylor Brooks, Madison Miller and Gelaude. Ridgewood sank 19 points to United’s 21.

    Trailing by five, Ridgewood fought their way back in the final period. Gelaude netted three of her six three-pointers for her 28 point game high. She also went 4-of-4 from the free throw line.

    Gelaude also had 10 rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block.

    Kruger finished with a double-double as well, having 16 points and 15 rebounds. Kruger also had two assists, two steals and a block.

    Brooks was the third Ridgewood player to hit double digits with 11. She also had two assists, three steals and five rebounds.

    Miller and Jefko netted seven and four points, respectively. Miller also had two assists, two steals and 4 rebounds. Jefko had two rebounds.

    Ridgewood shot 44 percent for the night from inside, while United was 39.3 percent. The Spartans shot 45.5 percent  from outside, while United was 40 percent. In free throw percentage, United outshot Ridgewood, 69.2 to 54.5 percent.
