Victor Edward “Cody” Meyer Jr., 76, of Somonauk passed away Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
A funeral mass was held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 21, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk with Fr. Thomas Brantman officiating. Burial was at St. John Catholic Cemetery in Somonauk. Visitation was from 3 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec 20, at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk with a Rosary service held at 7:30 p.m.

He was born Nov. 23, 1935, in Sandwich, the son of Victor and Loretta (Heminover) Meyer, Sr. He was a 1953 graduate of St. Bede Academy in Peru. He married Kathryn Fox on Feb. 23, 1957, in Somonauk. Cody began his career of banking in 1954 at Sheridan State Bank, moving on to Merchant’s Bank in 1958, then to First National Bank in Amboy and in May of 1966 he started at People’s Bank in Cambridge, becoming President in 1974 at the age of 37 and retiring in 1997 after 31 years of service.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk and the Sandwich Moose Lodge.
“Cody” was a loving husband, father and grandfather. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing the accordion and organ. He was an avid horseman, owning and racing horses, enjoyed playing cards and coffee time with friends and spending time at his hobby farm and life in general.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn of Somonauk; three sons, Gary Meyer and his sons, Geoffrey and Alex, all of Mesa, Ariz., Brad Meyer of Somonauk and his daughter Aleah Meyer of Hinckley; Greg (Jane) Meyer and their daughters, Melanie and Emma Meyer, all of Schaumburg; one daughter, Peg (Ed) Jensen and their children, Kate, Emmy, Cody, Meg, Ellie and Andrew Jensen, all of Wheaton; one brother, Don (Peg) Meyer of Mountain Home, Ark., and one sister, Colleen Hancock of Cotter, Ark., and several nieces and nephews.
“Cody” was preceded in death by his parents.
