Memorial services for George “Roger” Johnson, 77, and Mary Catherine Broshar Johnson, 76, both of Manchester, Tenn., will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2011, at the Cambridge Lutheran Church.
Rev. Dawn Keenan will officiate. Inurnment services will follow at Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge, with military services conducted by the Cambridge American Legion Post No. 417.
Memorials for Roger and Catherine may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church, 101 Bragg Circle, Tullahoma, TN, 37388, or to a Cambridge Public Library.
Roger died May 2, 2011, at his home.
He was born Jan. 21, 1934, in Moline, the son of Fred S. and Verna E. (Nelson) Johnson and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1952. He married Mary Catherine Broshar in 1954.
Roger retired from the United States Air Force in 1977 with the rank of Colonel. He served as an USAF Pilot and Navigator for over 23 years. He earned the Air Medal and numerous other awards for military service. He served in Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Okinawa, the Philippines, France, Panama, Alaska, Greenland and numerous stateside assignments.
His memberships include the Faith Lutheran Church, Tullahoma, Tenn., the Air Force Association and the Military Officer’s Association of America. He enjoyed his computer, woodworking, antique autos and numerous other hobbies.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Catherine, who died on Dec. 19, 2010, at her home.
Those surviving are a son, Jeffrey Johnson (Becky) of Georgia; a daughter, Shelley Anne Bains of Viriginia and five grandchildren, Melissa Shepherd (Field), Andrew Bains, Jacqueline Harnevious (Josh), George E. Bains, and Jacob Johnson. He is also survived by his brother Rodney D. Johnson (Donna) of Cambridge.

Catherine was born Aug. 29, 1934, in Udell, Iowa, at the home of her maternal grandparents, Reba and Evard McDonald. She moved with her parents Mina (McDonald) and Russell Broshar to Illinois in 1940. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1952. She was an Air Force wife and thoroughly enjoyed traveling and living in different parts of the country and overseas.
Survivors at the time of her death included her husband, two children, five grandchildren and a sister, Karen Schamp (Joseph) of California. Her parents, a brother, and a sister preceded her in death.
