Obituary: Stephanie Ruszczak

Stephanie M. Ruszczak, 87, of Geneseo died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at the Hammond-Henry Hospital Long Term Care Unit, Geneseo.

A funeral Mass celebrating her life was held Thursday, Nov. 10, at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Michael Pakula officiated. Burial was in North Cemetery, Geneseo. A visitation was held Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Vandemore Funeral Home Ltd., Geneseo, where a Rosary was recited.

Memorials may be made to the Stephanie Ruszczak Memorial Fund.

She was born Sept. 23, 1924, in Harvey, the daughter of Walenta and Aniela (Tyks) Sliwa. She married Richard F. Ruszczak on May 19, 1945, in Chicago. He died in 2000.

She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Atkinson.

She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed bingo, going to the gambling boat, Polish traditions and cooking.

Survivors include three daughters and spouses, Shirley and Gary Miller of Geneseo, Debbie and Rick Miller of Moline and Mary Ruszczak of Oshkosh, Wis.; a son and spouse, Lawrence and Jill Ruszczak of Arlington Heights; eight grandchildren, Brian Miller, Scott (Oun) Miller Platt, Valerie Miller, Nick Keator, Katherine Keator and Ashley, Emily and Kaitlyn Ruszczak; a great granddaughter, Kylie Niedziela and a brother, Stanley Sliwa of Loves Park.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son, a granddaughter, Donna Miller, two sisters and a brother.
