Burton L. Markham, PhD, 68, of Macomb, Illinois, passed away at 6:24 PM Friday June 15, 2018 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.
He was born June 5, 1950 in Macomb, Illinois to Harold and Vera McCarty Markham; he married Diane Bentley on May 20, 1989 in Lyme, New Hampshire. She survives.
Also surviving is his sister, Jane (John) Calaway of Arenzville, Illinois;  a sister-in-law, Judy Markham of Bourbonnais; several nieces and nephews; and his dog children, Zinger and Macaroon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dannie Markham.
He was a 1968 graduate of Bardolph High School, received his BS in Physics from Western Illinois University in 1972. He served in the Army from 1972-1974. He received his Master’s and PhD from the University of Utah after his service in the Army.
He worked as a research physicist for the US Navy for 28 years. After retirement he moved back to the family farm in 2013.
He was a member of the Jerusalem United Methodist Church.
Memorial Services will be at 11 AM Saturday June 23, 2018 at the Jerusalem United Methodist Church, where visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Pastor Michael Herdt will officiate. Cremation has been accorded. Memorial Contributions may be made to the McDonough County Humane Society or the Jerusalem United Methodist Church.
