Walter H. Medley, 81, of rural Cambridge died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at his home.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services with Father Anthony Bernas officiating. Burial was be in Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 15, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Cambridge Ambulance Service or the American Cancer Society.
Walter was born July 7, 1927, in Burns Township, Henry County, the son of James and Flossie (Cowden) Medley. He was educated in Galva area schools. His marriage to Burnetta Van Rie took place on Nov. 10, 1951 in Geneseo.
He served in the United States Army following World War II and then again during the Korean War. Walter farmed in Henry and Knox Counties for 42 years, retiring in 1996. After his retirement, he worked for four years at the Henry County Courthouse in Cambridge.
His memberships include the Henry County Farm Bureau and the National Farmers Organization. Walter loved horses and country music, and he was devoted to recycling.
Survivors include his wife, Burnetta; a daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Tom Owens of Cambridge; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Arleta Medley of Cambridge, Russell Medley of Somers, Wis., and Ronald and Gina Medley of Alpha. Other survivors include nine grandchildren, Chad Meirhaeghe, Gina Tatro, Bart Owens, Meggie Owens, Buckley (Tiffany) Medley, Culley (Amy) Medley, Sabrina,
