Esther I. Follin, 89, a resident of Hillcrest Home, rural Geneseo, formerly of Cambridge, was ushered into heaven surrounded by her loving family on Friday, June 12, 2009, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 15, at the Osco Community Church, Osco with Rev. Doug Shook officiating. Burial was in Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services.
Memorials may be made to the Osco Community Church or Hillcrest Activity Department.
The former Esther Rhea was born Sept. 24, 1919, in Clayton, the daughter of Liston and Wilma (Severns) Rhea. Her marriage to Fern W. Follin took place on Aug.25, 1939, in Palmyra, Mo. He died July 1, 1986. The couple lived in Quincy and Coal Valley before moving to Osco in 1966. Mrs. Follin moved into Cambridge in 1994.
She had worked at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley, and retired from Moline Public Hospital. After her husband’s death, she worked as a homemaker for the Henry County Health Department for several years. Esther faithfully attended the Osco Community Church.
Her hobbies were cooking and attending family events. She found great enjoyment in caring for others, especially her family.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Henry Kappelman, Cambridge and Cathy and Larry Roach, Osco; grandchildren and (spouses), Christina (Roger) Gunther, Edwardsville, Scott (Mary Jo) Kappelman, Orion, Lisa Kay (David) Swartz, Michigan City, Ind., Dena Rhea (Julius) Cocquit, Geneseo, Candy (Wade) Snook, Cambridge, Stephanie Wittenauer, Coal Valley, Nathan (Michelle) Roach, Galesburg and Timothy Roach, Coal Valley. Other survivors include great-grandchildren, Joshua, Angela and Emily Gunther, Dustin and Brett Stees, Kati Anne and Trevor Kappelman, Megan, Kristin, and Amber Swartz, Hannah and Seth Cocquit, Regina Rhea Kappelman, Juliun and Victoria Irene Cocquit, Carter, Victor, Taylor, and Tucker Rhea Snook, Jaxon and Bryant Wittenauer, Cloe and Blaze Smith; a great-great-grandson, Nathanial Stees, a sister, Mary Lou Peters; a brother, Dale (Marcie) Rhea; a sister-in-law, Opal Follin, and special friends, Verna Mae Sloan and Clarice Thompson.
Her parents, her husband, a sister, a brother, and a great grandson, Noah Snook, preceded her in death.
