Flower pots filled without purchases from local businesses

Again, the flower pots have been planted along Prospect and East streets to add curb appeal to our downtown business district. And again, the flowers for those planters were purchased out of town instead of supporting our local businesses, (Flower Basket and Jack & Jill) our tax dollars were spent in other towns.

The small town businesses in America are fast closing because people do not support their local shop owners. People drive 15, 30, and even 50 miles to save a dime and spend more because they did not check out what the locals have and can provide.

I have tried for the past 10 years to provide Cambridge with quality plants and merchandise, and if a customer asks me to locate a particular plant or gift item, I try to accommodate them.

But in those 10 years, I have not been approached to provide flowers for those containers in our downtown.

It is a sad statement of our Village administration’s loyalty to local business.

On behalf of all small town “Mom and Pop” operations, I ask you to support your local businesses or they won’t be around in the future. Then you will complain about driving 15, 30 or more miles to get the services you want and need.
