Despite the cold and snow, Cambridge schools have been burning with activity! There are a number of things that have developed since the last newsletter.
One of the biggest opportunities developing at Cambridge is the co-op of volleyball, boys and girls basketball, golf, and the creation of a cross country team with AlWood High School. This will allow our students the opportunity to play on full varsity and junior varsity teams and continue the sports tradition of Cambridge High School. We are currently working on game schedules, practice schedules and the student councils are working on the co-op name, colors, and mascot. More on this next month!
Along with the sports co-op will come the opportunity for Cambridge High School students to add a number of college level classes to their schedules in an academic sharing arrangement with AlWood and Orion School Districts. This will allow us to expand our curriculum and potentially create the possibility for some of our students to have their first semester of college credits completed before they graduate from CHS!
We have also invested in the Teleserv Network, a system allowing us to notify you, the parent, of any school closings or other major event. We will be running a test on this soon. The system will send an automated message to your home phone regarding school related announcements.
Finally, the Cambridge School District has received two significant grants. We received a grant from The Lowe’s Toolbox for Education Grant, which will allow us, through the CPC, to continue to expand the elementary playground by adding some new equipment for all of the students. We received a CATCH grant which will allow us to add to our physical education program at the elementary school level.
As always, feel free to contact any of your child/children’s teachers or administrator.
I also want to encourage all of you to attend the Internet safety program through Cambridge Parent Network on March 5 at 6 p.m. in the Cambridge elementary library.
