Once again as the holidays approach, many of us are eager to share glad tidings with the brave men and women of our military. You may receive an email asking you to send a card or perhaps even a package. While these efforts are appreciated, you should be sure to follow the following guidelines to make sure your efforts reach their intended destination: Walter Reed will not be accepting items addressed to “Any Service Member” or “Any Wounded Soldier.” These items will be returned to sender.

 However, the American Red Cross is sponsoring a National Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign. Their goal is to collect and distribute one million holiday cards to service members and veterans both in the US and abroad. Please send cards to: Holiday Mail for Heroes, P.O. Bos 5456, Capitol Heights, MD, 20791-5456.

 Follow these guidelines when preparing your cards:

 • Cards must be postmarked no later than December 10.

 • Your cards must be signed.

 • Send cards - not long letters - to ensure a quick review process.

 • Do not include addresses (email, etc) as this is not a program intended to foster pen pal relationships.

 • Do not include inserts - like photos, gift cards, etc - as they will be removed.

 • Do not send care packages to this address. Go to www.AmericaSupportsYou.com to find out how and where to send packages.

 • Please limit 25 cards per household or 50 cards per organization.

 This is a great way to show support to those who have and still serve us, so please consider either of the above programs. Feel free to pass this on to everyone on your email list to help the Red Cross meet their goal of one million cards.
