Would you like to make a difference in the life of a child? Now is the perfect opportunity to support the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the children who benefit from their services.
Kara Stromquist of Peoria, a 1998 Cambridge School graduate, will participate in the St. Jude Run from St. Louis, Mo., to Peoria Friday and Saturday, Aug. 6 and 7.
“We will have 70 to 75 runners who will cover 170 miles in the two-day relay from St. Louis to Peoria,” stated Stromquist.
All runners are required to raise a minimum of $1,000 to participate in the run. All proceeds from the run benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Donations are needed by Saturday, July 24, and may be made in several ways. Community members may send cash or a check made out to "St. Jude Run" to her parent's home at the following address: Kathy and Gene Stromquist, 8628 IL Hwy 81 Cambridge, IL 61238.

She will be running between 20 and 25 miles between the two days and this is the third year she has participated in the run.
“We run through the night which is kind of fun,” she said. “There are many people on the run route that come out every year with treats or donations or just to cheer us on.”
Running is something Stromquist has always enjoyed, although it seems like she has to push herself to do it more lately.
According to Stromquist she has to keep pushing herself because she is getting married in October and there is lots to do between now and then.
“While working with children as a pediatric occupational therapist, it is amazing to see what children can overcome when challenged with a disability,” Stromquist said. “By making a donation, we are providing these children the opportunity to overcome these childhood diseases. No amount is too small when making a donation. Together, we can make a difference of a lifetime for these children in need. Thank you in advance for your support and donation.”
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is a world renowned- center for the treatment and research of life threatening childhood diseases, such as cancer, sickle cell anemia, and pediatric AIDS. All children are treated regardless of race, religion, or ability to pay. Since its inception, St. Jude has increased childhood cancer survival rates from 20 percent to better than 70 percent overall.
“It's difficult to raise $1,000 and its great to have the support of your hometown community,” she said.
