Every year, Bishop Hill looks for children in grades 4-6 who would like to be tomten for the village's Christmas Market weekends in November and December. A call-out for interested kids is now being made for the 2016 season.

Tomten are Swedish elves. Bishop Hill tomten walk through town shaking hands with tourists, looking through windows, peeking around corners, and looking a little mischievous. Tourists love taking photographs of the tomten.

Each shift is two hours.

Outfits with red caps, grey sweatshirts, red sashes, and pants, which the children wear over their clothes, will be provided.

Tomten are portrayed by both boys and girls.

The child will receive a $5 gift certificate from the Colony Store for helping out.

Light refreshments are also provided to the children.

If you are interested in having your child be a tomte, call Todd DeDecker at the Steeple Building Museum at (309) 927-3899 as soon as possible.
