Vivian Ragsdale, 97, of Canton passed away Friday, March 2, 2018, at Red Oak Estates in Canton.

She was born June 4, 1920, in Clay County, Illinois, to Holly H. and Nina M. (Johnson) Moore.

She married Dr. Jack S. Ragsdale June 12, 1950 in Memphis, Tennessee. He preceded her in death Sept. 30, 2005.

Also preceding her in death is her daughter, Kay.

Surviving are her daughter, Jean (Chuck) Sheldon of Slidell, Louisiana; two granddaughters, Phoebe Sheldon of Metairie, Louisiana and Holly (Thomas) Plunkett of Winnetka, California; and one great-granddaughter, Ophelia Sheldon of Metairie, Louisiana.

She was a graduate of the Christian Welfare School of Nursing of East St. Louis. She was veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy Nurse’s Corps as a first Lieutenant. She traveled extensively as a nurse in the polio epidemic. She was employed by Florida, Tennessee and Illinois hospitals as a private duty nurse.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canton.

A graveside funeral service will be held Monday, March 5, at 11 a.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery in Canton. There will be no visitation.

Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church.
