CARMI — Grayville’s Post 696 played a spirited game, but Carmi Post 224’s experience ultimately came through in a 7-3 win on Monday.

Carmi dominated early, scoring three in the bottom of the first, with hits from Easton Stewart, Travis Black and Ethan Mahon.

Things quieted down the next few innings, with Carmi having scoring chances but never delivering the knockout blow (14 runners left on base in the game).

Carmi finally did score three more in the fourth, the big hit coming on a two-strike, two out single from Gia Berekashvili.

But Grayville struck back with three runs of their own in the fifth. Cameron Gross started things with a single. After Aden Gill drew a walk, Cole Neely came through with a two-RBI single to right and he later scored on a hit by Adam Stoneberger.

Carmi was able to move the lead to 7-3 in the bottom of the fifth when Black doubled and his pinch runner (Cal York) later scored on a sacrifice fly by Gavin Dauby.

KaCee Fulkerson and William Ledford shared the pitching duties on the day for Carmi, giving up four hits while striking out three and walking four.

Carmi returns to action tonight in a double header with McLeansboro.
