Editor,

Fulton County is rich in opportunities for great outdoor recreation: hunting, fishing, boating, kayaking, hiking, birdwatching, and conservation education, to name a few. The Spoon River Partnership for Economic Development (SRPED) made it a priority to brand Fulton County as the “Outdoor Recreation Capital of Illinois”. A diverse committee was formed and has been working to develop a strategy to accomplish this.

This committee has been successful in creating a logo and developing the brand and in February of 2019 hosted a “stakeholders” dinner where they presented their marketing materials, plans and a start to a website.

At the dinner the committee asked the “stakeholders” for their support of the branding and assistance in creating the website by filling out a “Call for Information” form.

This “Call for Information” was instrumental to ensure that all the outdoor recreation assets would be listed and that all their information was correct.

The committee spent several months gathering “Call for Information” forms to make certain that they had as much information as possible about outdoor recreation assets before the website went live.

I’m Amanda Woodruff the Marketing and Tourism Coordinator. I have been responsible for the development of the website.

A soft launch of the website happened the first week of July.

This soft launch was so the committee could take a look at the site and provide feedback to me on things that might need changed or added.

Now that, that process has occurred the committee is happy to announce the launch of thefultoncountyoutdoor.org website!

Featured on the website is a “Places To Go” link that lists Attractions, Lakes, Parks and Rivers.

The “Things To Do” link includes, Birdwatching, Boating and Fishing, Canoeing and Kayaking, Camping, Corn Mazes, Hiking and Biking, Hunting, Sporting and Swimming.

All of these links connect you to whatever outdoor recreation asset has these amenities.

If you are one of the assets or you are hosting an outdoor recreation related event you can also submit an event to the calendar on the website.

And last, but not least, visitors can plan their trip through the site.

On fultoncountyoutdoor.org you will find these words, “Finding your outdoors in Fulton County is limitless!

From its waterways to byways and unbeaten paths, Fulton County offers an abundance of attractions, lakes, parks, trails, camping sites, hunting opportunities, sporting venues and events, just to name a few!

Grab your boots, fishing poles, cameras, and whatever you may need and let us help you find your outdoors.” As we begin our marketing campaign for the website it is our hopes that you will help us spread the word about this new website to encourage people to visit Fulton County, “The Outdoor Recreation Capital of Illinois!”
