Sawyer recently celebrated his 5th birthday!
His actual birthday was Aug. 2, but we celebrated Saturday, Aug. 3 with family and friends.
He had so much fun playing with water balloons with his cousins while we cooked for everyone.
It's amazing to see just how fast time flies. I was told while pregnant time would fly by.
I'd blink and he would be crawling.
I'd blink again and he started walking and talking.
Now, he's a feisty 5-year old who enjoys construction toys, farm animals, and is about to enter Kindergarten!
When he was 1, readers George and Melba Onion came into the office to give Sawyer a ceramic '1' for his birthday along with a dollar bill. I thought it was incredibly sweet they remembered his birthday and they wanted to drop off a little gift for him!
Here recently, I checked the Prairie Review mail and had to do a double take as there was an envelope for him.
I opened it when I got home, thinking perhaps the post office accidentally slipped it into the Prairie Review box instead of my personal post office box, but it was actually sent to the Prairie Review box.
Inside the envelope was a card from a reader, a note, and a couple of dollars.
Sawyer was so thrilled to be remembered on his birthday, and he was overjoyed to receive a card and money!
So, thanks, Country Curly for thinking of my kiddo on his special day.
I am truly blessed to have readers who remember my little guy. When Sawyer was first born, a reader spotted us in WalMart and came to say, ‘hi’, noting she had been wondering if he had been born yet!
I feel my readers experienced a lot of firsts with me when it comes to Sawyer.
I used to write a lot about him when I had time to have a column regularly. I talked about potty training, those first words, the concern that he wasn't talking as much, etc.
He talks nonstop now, so my fears were quite silly, but when you're new to motherhood, you question everything!
Sometimes, I still do!
I asked him the other day if he's excited for Kindergarten.
His response? "Um, no, not really. I'm a little scared."
It's all new! I'm scared for him!
I wanted to cry as we registered him for school because you were all right.
Time flew by.
I stepped into the Elementary School I attended so many years ago and I thought to myself, "Do I really have to do this? Can't this wait another year?"
I suppose it could wait another year, but the supplies are purchased and Sawyer IS excited to be able to see his cousin Corbin every day.
I know he's scared, but he's also excited, too.
He's excited to meet new people, to have more friends.
He's excited about his Toy Story backpack and he digs the fact there's a recess.
I think the first couple weeks might be rough, but after that, I bet time will fly.
So, here's to soaking up the fact that I have a 5-year old.
It's time to slow down and enjoy every minute!
