Many things evolve over time. The pizza box, though, hasn't been one of them.

Until now.

Pizza Hut is looking to innovate, replacing square pizza boxes with round ones.

Business Insider reports the chain conducted a one-day test recently using the new boxes at a location in Phoenix.

Zumo, a food startup, helped design the box, which could eventually be rolled out nationwide. The round boxes take up less space, are compostable and can be stacked and interlocked. They also reportedly keep pizzas hotter longer.

"This revolutionary round box — the result of a two-year journey — is the most innovative packaging we've rolled out to date," Nicolas Burquier, Pizza Hut's chief customer and operations officer, said in a written statement. "The round box was engineered to make our products taste even better — by delivering hotter, crispier pizzas."

The same Phoenix location that tested the round boxes also hosted a trial run for a new plant-based meat topping from Morningstar Farms called Incogmeato. No word yet on whether Incogmeato will be available at other locations.
