Even though residents aren’t able to shop in person, they can continue to support local businesses and shop small and order online.

Amy DeFauw, owner of Katsch Boutique with shops in both Geneseo and Davenport, has seen a major shift in her businesses due to the temporary closure of the two storefronts.

“We are fortunate to have a website and social media presence we can utilize to reach our customers,” she said.

The Katsch website – www.shopkatsch.com – features a full assortment of clothing, jewelry, shoes and gifts.

“In addition to our website, we also have a strong media presence by frequently posting live videos featuring new arrivals and sale items on our Facebook group Katsch: First Dibs,” she said. “Personally, I really love the live videos because it’s an opportunity to talk to customers and have the type of interactions and conversations we used to have in the store.”

DeFauw said she is “so grateful for every order that comes through. Our stores were doing about 85 percent of our sales volume so the increase in online sales is vital to the long term success of the business. In addition to online orders and gift card sales, I’ve received countless messages of support and encouragement which are very impactful. I can really feel the support from the community, it’s like everyone is saying ‘we’re all in this together and we can get through it’.”

“We work hard to keep the site updated with new products and ideas that work for our customers’ lives,” DeFauw said. “We are currently offering free domestic shipping on all orders, local delivery and curbside pickup. We also offer online gift cards that are instantly delivered to your email address. It’s a great option for someone that needs to buy a gift and wants to support a small business.”

Katie Kutsunis, president of GWK Enterprises, Inc., also offers online shopping at both Four Seasons and Pegasus Fine Gifts in downtown Geneseo with free shipping on orders over $20.

Four Seasons includes fashions in missy, petite and plus sizes plus handbags and accessories, all available online at FourSeasonsDirect.com.

“We also are ‘super-sizing’ our gift cards with a 30 percent discount,” Kutsunis said “You can get a $50 gift card for only $35.”

At Pegasus Fine Gifts, online shoppers can find homemade fudge and gifts galore, all available at https://www.fourseasonsdirect.com/gifts/ .

“We are busy making and delivering fudge to our local customers,” Kutsunis said. “Buy online and we will deliver to your doorstep our delicious homemade fudge. Pegasus also has gift cards available online.”

Kutsunis expressed appreciation for online shoppers and said, “We are so thankful for all of our customers supporting Four Seasons and Pegasus by shopping online. We are sad to be closed and we can’t wait to re-open when it is safe.”

MIVA, located above The Cellar in downtown Geneseo, is a shop with a mission to encourage others to reconnect with nature and do their part in preserving the planet, according to owner Morgan Thurman.

“We do this through offering fashion, sustainability, and education,” Thurman said. “You can shop online at www.shopmiva.com for all of your latest fashion trends, sustainable and zero waste products, and fun outdoor items.”

“You can support MIVA and other local small businesses through word-of-mouth and by sharing on local media,” she said. “Tell everyone how much you love your recent purchases and encourage others to support small by purchasing gift cards from your favorite local shops.”

“Geneseo is a strong community and I’m confident the support of one another will see us through this difficult time,” Thurman said. “Stay home and stay positive!”
