Class 1A Schlarman Sectional with Ridgeview defeating St. Anne

Ridgeview will be making a return trip to Redbird Arena after getting past St. Anne 57-52 in the final of the Class 1A Danville (Schlarman) Sectional Friday night.
The victory moves the Mustangs to 28-4 and will meet Annawan at Illinois State on Tuesday. The Braves defeated Aurora Christian at the Ottawa (Marquette) Sectional.
It wasn’t easy for Ridgeview as the game went back and forth. St. Anne’s quickness allowed the upstart Cardinals (16-15) to take a 17-11 lead in the first quarter. Travis DeYoung had seven points and Sion Lightfoot added six in the opening frame.
But Ridgeview showed its mettle in fighting back. Justin Myers, who poured in 41 points in the semifinal round on Wednesday, had 11 points in the second quarter as the Mustangs put up 18 in forging a 29-29 tie.
Jacob Donaldson was starting to make his presence felt with seven points in the period. Donaldson then threw in eight in the third as the Mustangs tallied 15 while limiting St. Anne to nine in taking a 44-38 advantage into the final frame.
From there, it was defense and making free throws. Although Ridgeview was outscored 14-13 in the quarter, the Mustangs made enough free throws to keep the Cardinals at bay, hitting 7 of 12 in the period.
Donaldson and Myers each connected for 25 points in pacing Ridgeview. Alex Tongate added 6 points and Juan Rios-Narcissa chipped in 1 point.
Mico Sullivan led St. Anne with 19 points and DeYoung had 13. Lightfoot chipped in 10 points.
