El Paso-Gridley football
Tri-Valley scored two touchdowns in a 2½-minute span at the quarter turn in the first half to vault past El Paso-Gridley en route to a 42-6 Heart of Illinois Conference Large Division contest Friday night.
The Vikings scored first on a 65-yard run from Cole Maxedon, Bryce Bedillion’s conversion kick made it 7-0 with 5:43 to go in the opening frame. Bedillion was good on all six of his conversion kicks.
The Titans responded with a scoring drive that was capped by a 30-yard pass play from Sawyer Schlipf to Ryne Faulk. The two-point conversion failed and EPG trailed 7-6.
Hunter Gawlik had a quick answer for Tri-Valley when he raced 55 yards on the first play of the next possession. This made it 14-6 with 2:05 to go in the first period.
Maxedon ran in from 10 yards with 11:30 left in the half for the second quick score. He added a 14-yard run and Jake Reeser ran in from three yards for a 35-6 halftime lead.
Zach Woodring scored the last TD, which came with 10:34 remaining in the game.
Faulk was held to 71 yards on 20 carries for EPG (2-2, 1-1). Schlipf was 4 of 7 throwing for 46 yards and a touchdown.
Gawlik led Tri-Valley with 180 yards and Maxedon added 125 yards. Reeser threw for 63 yards on 4 of 8 passing.
